URGENT APPEAL FOR PAPER BALLOT INITIATIVE

We are down to the wire and must win all voters to pass our proposed County charter amendment November 7th.

Kathy Dent, The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections, is publishing yet another negative article in the local papers, with critical comments and inflated cost numbers designed to discourage voters. I have submitted a column in response, but we need to reach out directly to communicate our message to all likely voters. We have volunteers staffing the seven Early Voting locations to hand out our campaign cards (to help, call Susette Bryan at 496-8668 or 416-5777 or email her at galaxypoet@comcast.net.)

We are running a targeted direct mail campaign (best use of limited funds) to voters who request Absentee ballots every day in October. Our mailing to Early voters goes out this week.

We have NO FUNDS left to reach the 73,000 likely voters who will vote on Election Day, November 7th.

We must raise $23,000 IMMEDIATELY or that mailing will never go out. Contribute now online at http://www.safevote.org/html/contribute.html Click on "Make a Donation". Contributions of $1000 and $2000 are especially welcome now, but all will help.

It is critical that we win all voters to our cause for mandatory voter verified paper ballots and independent random audits of election results. People all over the country realize that is the only way to have verified elections. Other counties in Florida are counting on us to pass this amendment. If we succeed in Sarasota County, we will pave the way for a new era of open and verifiable elections in Florida. If we fail, we will doom Sarasota County to paperless touchscreen machines, and set back the cause of verified voting here and elsewhere. Our elections will be forever controlled by private, for-profit corporations.

Contribute now to help pass our county charter amendment for the sake of democracy in this country. Copy and paste this url in your browser and contribute online at http://www.safevote.org/html/contribute.html . Click on "Make a Donation" or send a check today to SAFE, P.O. Box 163, Venice, FL 34284.

Thank you.

Education and Current Position Held

University of South Florida, 2005 - Present
Masters in Public Administration

University of South Florida, 1998 - 2000
Bachelors in Arts and Science
Major-Religious Studies/Minor-Anthropology

Currently Employed by an Engineering Firm
as an Assistant Planner, 2003 to Present

Related Experience:

I have been a volunteer officer for a community group since 2000 (out of respect for this Non-Partisan race, I have chosen not to name this Partisan community group). Among other issues, the group champions environmental issues. I served as the Chair of the Recycling Committee that worked with the City of Tampa to expand recycling services to apartment complexes, who otherwise had only two options - haul their recyclables to the only drop-off site in the City or not recycle at all. I am presently continuing these efforts to expand recycling services countywide.

I have experience with the identification of soils through my current position as an Assistant Planner and from my previous position with an archaeological consulting firm where I served as a Field Technician. I used/use both Munsell Color books and Soil Surveys as tools of the trade.

In my current position, I organize public meetings. As a future Board member, I can utilize this skill to organize public workshops to present how farmers and other citizens can participate in the various conservation programs that are available through the Soil and Water Conservation District. Also in my current position, I maintain project websites. I can utilize this skill to improve and maintain the Soil and Water Conservation Board's website. It should be improved to include information about the Board's public meetings (where, when, meeting minutes), detailed information on the Board's projects and programs, and information on how individuals can curb their personal pollution and waste.

I am a volunteer and member of Sweetwater Organic Farm, Tampa Bay Estuary - Give a Day for the Bay, Sierra Club - Tampa Bay Group, and WMNF 88.5 Community Radio.
