Monday, October 2
6:00 pm
Sahara Café
1121 S. Tamiami Trail

This is a change from our regular 2nd Monday schedule.

Please note that this meeting is open only to registered Green Party members.

Pot Luck (Red Tide) Update

We’ve just been to the North Jetty Beach, and while the air was okay at that moment, red tide was undeniably present. A fish kill had taken place about two days ago and the water was a disgusting rust color. According to locals, it’s been patchy but definitely present, with considerable respiratory irritation at times.

Given the overall water quality situation, and the unpredictability factor with k-brevis, we’re opting to play it safe. So, forget the pot-luck and join us for food, drink and good conversation at:

Thursday, September 21
5-9 pm
TJ Carney’s
231 Venice Avenue
Venice
(early bird dinner specials from 5-7)

And, coming this fall: another Red Tide Forum to get the latest environmental info about the water quality issues we face.

Join Us at the Englewood Labor Day Parade

Yep, it's that time of year again when we pull out our banners, peace flags and assorted parade paraphernalia to participate in the annual Labor Day Parade in Englewood (aka the Pioneer Days Parade). This year marks the 50th anniversary of the parade and the 5th for the Sarasota County Green Party. This is a really fun event made even more fun when we have large numbers, so please plan to attend, and bring along your children and friends.

When: Monday September 4th (Labor Day) 8:45 am (The parade starts at 9:00 sharp.)

Where to meet: The staging area for the parade is at the St Raphael Catholic Church parking lot located at 770 Kilbourne Avenue in Englewood. We are #56 in the parade line up. To get there, take SR 776 to Artists Avenue. Go west on Artists Avenue to Kilbourne Drive and take a right (north). The church and staging area will be on your left. If you are coming from I-75, Exit 193 Englewood/Jacaranda Blvd. or US 41 will take you to SR 776.

What to bring: water, comfortable walking shoes, geer that protects you from the summer sun (hats, visors, sunscreen, etc... ) and a snack for energy upon completion of the route.

We will have plenty of banners, flags, etc so no need to make signs.

Let's Labor for Peace, Social Justice, a Clean Environment & a Sustainable Future!

Letter to the President

Open Letter: Nader to Bush
Body: Monday, August 14. 2006
Open letter to President George W. Bush

The widespread destruction of a defenseless Lebanon-its civilians, its life-sustaining public services, its environment-is a grim and indelible testament to your consummate cruelty and ignorance. Nearly two weeks ago when your tardy Secretary of State met with the Israeli Prime Minister, the message she carried was summarized in a large headline across page one of an Israeli newspaper, "TAKE YOUR TIME."

Yes, take your time, says George W. Bush, pulverizing fleeing refugees in cars full of families, bombing apartment buildings, hospitals and the poor huddled in large south Beirut slums.
